We are open for business again and are recruiting new board members with board experience including organizational skills. People skills are considered an asset, and a background with live music events would be great!

If you are a current member of the Edmonton Blues Society, you are invited to attend and participate in your EBS Annual General Meeting and Elections on June 22nd, 2022, at 7:00 pm at the Edmonton Public Library Program Room, at the Capilano Library Branch: 9915 - 67 St. N.W., Edmonton. The Treasurer will present the audited financial statement for our fiscal year ending February 28, 2022. The President will then present the Presidents Report covering our programs and activities from 2021-2022. Following the report, we invite a question-and-answer period from the members.  After the question/answer session, we will hold the election.

All the way from Memphis, TN you not want to miss this opportunity to experience the Ghost Town Blues Band. GTBB's new album Shine debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. Recently headlining the blues stage at The Montreal Jazz Festival and fresh off of their European debut at the Grolsch Blues Festival in Germany, Beale Street’s latest success story, 5-time Blues Blast Music Award Nominee and International Blues Challenge Runner-up is Ghost Town Blues Band. Not your grandpa’s blues band, their live show has been captivating audiences in the U.S., Canada and Europe with their "second-line horn entrance," cigar box guitars and electric push brooms to Allman Brothers style jams and even a hip-hop trombone player. The band's stage show and energy is unparalleled and has been called the best new live blues show in the world. Horns, harmonies and homegrown instruments combined with an energetic and roots rich festival set makes Ghost Town Blues Band one of the “must see live bands on the festival scene today.” Both Andrew McNeill behind the drums and Matt Karner on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind multi-instrumentalist/frontman Matt Isbell with raunchy cigar box guitar licks and raspy "Dr. John-like, whiskey and gravel-soaked vocals." With the addition of Trombonist Suavo Jones, Cedric Taylor on B3 and Taylor Orr on lead guitar, the grooves go from fresh to funky as the band gains more notoriety in the blues festival and jam circuit. Ghost Town Blues Band has performed all across US and Canada at over 100+ festivals and will perform more than a half-dozen international tours in Canada and Europe in 2019. “GTBB shows what can happen when the past is distilled through young sensibilities, voices, and instruments. This is 21st century blues at its best.” -Living Blues Magazine

Jack Semple - Tribute to BB King

Jack Semple - Tribute to BB King

Saturday, June 15, 2019 @ 6:00PMSat, Jun 15, 2019 @ 6:00PM

St Basil's Cultural Center, 10819 71 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 0X8

Regina’s own Jack Semple, who can make a guitar weep with the blues at the best of times, has pulled together a group of seven funk-rock players, including a full horn section, to present a scorching tribute to the late, great legend B.B. King at our next blues dance party.

Semple has reached an international audience with his songwriting, recordings and performances as a vocalist and flamenco-technique, groove-loving guitarist. Juno recipient, two-time winner of the Western Canadian Blues album of the year, and nominee for the 2019 Maple Blues Award for "Guitarist of the Year", Jack has been a fixture on the Canadian music scene for decades.

Semple first listened to King when he was 12 years old and has been a devoted fan ever since. “He’s was a total genius,” Semple says of King. “He occupied a really interesting place in blues music. Of course he could play chords, but the rhythms he played with those single notes were exactly in the pocket, just like the drummer." He continued, “With this tribute, I’m trying to recreate the happy vibe, doing my best, but it’s not easy.”

Tickets are $40 in advance until 5:00 PM, June 15. EBS members will get a $5 refund at the door.

Don't wait. This show is going to be a sellout.

Dylan Farrell is a born guitarist whose playing displays a level of emotional maturity and a technical depth and dexterity that is truly remarkable for someone only in his mid-twenties. Upon moving from New Brunswick to Edmonton in 2012, he almost instantly became a fixture in the city’s thriving roots and blues scene, lending his consummate skill as a sideman to several acts, and hosting a weekly blues jam at the Have Mercy Southern Table and Bar. With the Dylan Farrell Band, he is a two-time winner of the Memphis Bound Blues Challenge, and semi-finalist at the 2018 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. While in Memphis, Dylan recorded his debut LP which was released in the fall.

While it’s not every day that a songwriter makes it from the shadows of open mic nights to the high wattage, real deal scene, Joe Nolan’s old soul lyrics and striking vocals suggest that the odds of breaking through are in his favour. Joe Nolan’s distinctive and intimate vocals stack the deck. From the ramin tremors to raw howls, his range of expression reaches extremes. The songs are fervent, pressing and intense, attuned at once to the world of youthful melodramas in which Joe, an artist in his early 20s lives, and an older, deeper level of human experience. Even in the spotlight, the lyrical contours of Joe Nolan’s confessions retain their mystery. Tornado, a collection of songs that befit a rising star in the songwriting world, was released by Six Shooter Records on January 28, 2014.
